This large Chinese covered ginger jar is decorated in famille rose enamels on a warm yellow ground, featuring continuous figural scenes of Daoist immortals and attendants moving through an idealized landscape of pine trees, mountains, clouds, and symbolic animals. The composition wraps the body in a lively narrative, rendered in soft pinks, turquoise greens, pale blues, and iron-red outlines characteristic of mid-20th-century export porcelain.
The jar is made in a traditional ginger jar form with a domed lid and pointed finial, though its generous scale indicates it was intended as a decorative object rather than functional storage. The interior is fully glazed, and the underside bears a decorative red seal mark along with a Hong Kong export label, placing production in the post-war period. The yellow ground shows subtle variation and speckling consistent with hand-applied enamels of the era.
This piece dates to the mid 20th century, circa 1950s–1960s, and reflects the continued popularity of classical Chinese themes produced for the Western decorative market. It presents well as a statement object on its own or displayed on its carved wooden stand, which is later and included as an accessory.
Overall condition is very good, with only minor surface wear appropriate to age and use. Please review photographs carefully for details.
Approximate dimensions: 11 inches high including stand; 8.5 inches in diameter.
